Performance Development Programme
Learners receive elite performance training from the TGSE coaching team, using the Total Golf Coaching System. Technical coaching comes in the form of both group and individual sessions.
Golf-fitness levels are assessed each cycle using the Titleist Performance Institute’s screening methods. Each student receives individual fitness training programmes based on these results.
Students have unlimited use of the Observatory Academy range and short game area. They also play a full tournament schedule of 35 tournaments per year, at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC, where they become members and receive unlimited prepaid rounds of golf. Students are invited to represent Royal Johannesburg & Kensington in league matches.
An Order of Merit is formed from the weekly medals and regular 72-hole tournaments. All vital stats are recorded and used to form the student’s development process. A 50% scholarship is awarded each year for the leader of the order of merit. A matchplay championship is also held throughout the year.

The learning process includes a large practical element to compliment the theory. Students participate in weekly coaching workshops and gain experience through coaching programmes such as the Special Olympics.
The students organise a different tournament each year; a junior tournament, a sports celebrity golf day and a Pro/Am event. The students also gain experience by working at certain Sunshine Tour events such as the PGA Championship and Joburg Open.
A select number of 2nd year students each year gain fantastic coaching and life experience by spending 8 weeks at the Julian Krinsky School of Golf in Philadelphia, USA. These students are chosen on academic merit and attitude. |
