Centre Your Putts

On too many occasions we see players putting with what resembles a rocking putting stroke where the shoulders move up and down. The purity of the strike is unfortunately effected rather badly when the timing of the stroke is not 100% and thus the distance control suffers.

An excellent way of improving the strike quality of the stroke without getting into too many technical complications would be to practice your putting with either your Sand Wedge or Lob Wedge.

The set-up is as normal for your putting stroke (Picture A). The intention of this particular stroke is the “belly” your putts exactly in the equator of the ball (Picture B).

By doing so, you will ensure that the Wedge travels at a low point through the impact zone for a longer period of time, as opposed to when the stroke is rocking up and down with greater chance of error.

The ultimate change effect by practicing your putting in such a way is that your shoulders will turn more around your body, similar to a full swing motion, enabling a more in-square-in path with a purer strike out the middle of the putter face.
