Coining it

Here’s a new take on the phrase “you drive for show and putt for dough”.  One of the key principles for consistent pace on the greens is to strike the centre of the putter consistently.  It sounds obvious and simple, but you would be surprised how few players manage to achieve this.  At our Elite Academy we film our player’s putting strokes at close range and often find inconsistencies in strike both horizontally and vertically.

A great drill to show these inconsistencies and focus your mind on centre strikes is to stick coins on the toe and heel of the putter face with just enough room for the ball to fit in-between.  Any off-centre hits will show up straight away.  Once you find a consistent strike your distance control will improve drastically.
