Divide and Conquer

Have you ever played a round of golf where you are having a nightmare on the first nine and then all of a sudden you 'shoot the lights out' on the back nine for no apparent reason.  It's happened to all of us at one time or another.

The way scorecards are designed we are given an automatic way of separating each nine holes and therefore shutting the door on any bad feelings once we move to the 10th tee.  This is done by the act of add up and recording the front nine score.  It's as if the slate is wiped clean.

In order to play elite golf however, we sometimes need to be able to turn things around before we get to the turn, otherwise it may be too late.

One method that many of the Swedes have used for years is to mentally split a round of golf into 6 sets of 3 holes rather than the traditional 2 halves of nine.  Their idea was to play each set of 3 holes in 1 under par, which would result in a 66 if successfully implimented.  The great benefit though is that it enables the player to mentally shut the door after each 3 holes, whether good or bad and start afresh with the new set.
