Hammer Your Putts Home

There are 2 types of rhythm when it comes to putting; a long flowing stroke or a more compact stroke with authority in the strike.  Some of the best putters in the game have used the long flowing motion, Loren Roberts (the boss of the moss) being a prime example.  This type of stroke however requires nerves of steel especially under presure.  It can often lead to a deceleration through impact, which is a killer on any putt.

The shorter stroke is far more repeatable and requires an acceleration through impact in order to gain the correct distance. To get the feeling, imagine hammering a small nail into a wall. There is not too much of a whack but you need to put some authority into it.  Now try this feeling with your putting, making sure that your backswing is not overly long.

A little practice and this feeling should lead to you nailing a lot more putts!!
