The Power Connection

One of the keys to an efficient, effective and powerful swing is to maintain the connection between the arms and torso throughout the swing, ensuring that they work in unison together.

 
A disconnection or separation can often occur when the player is trying to get as wide as possible on the takeaway or is focusing on 'straight-back, straight-through'.  Such misconceptions can be very damaging.
 


 
     
     
We use the above drill with our players to give them the correct feeling.  Place a ball between your forearms, just below the elbows.  Make sure it is the correct size to fit in the gap without pushing the elbows apart.  Make ¾ swings keeping the ball between your elbows and focus on rotating the body back and through.
     

A compact, connected swing will produce far more power than a wide disconnected swing. Richard Sterne is the perfect example of connected power.
