Reading Your Putts
I kid you not when I suggest that 80% of all golfers under-read their putts. Amazingly, if there is a 3 foot break from left-to-right, we tend to under-read it more than if it were a 3 foot break from right-to-left, why is that?
|
| |
To start, let’s take the #1 problem and analyze it simply. We know that the putter path is “in-square-in”, therefore when players set up to these putts, it automatically gives off the impression that every putt is going to be pulled, and therefore players aim far too straight, and tend to leave 90% of these putts below the hole. |

What should be done? |
Players should find the highest Break Point in their ball line ( X ), and set-up with the putter face perpendicular to this point. Feet will obviously be parallel left of this line and automatically give off the impression that they are aiming too far left. |
| |
The important factor is to remember that the feet are not doing the aiming, but the putter face is, and therefore need to trust their reads and the amount of break seen, and to put their best possible putt on the ball. |
