What makes Tiger great?

After yet another awe inspiring performance it is a good time to examine  some of the qualities that make Tiger so successful.  This could fill an entire volume of books so i've pick a few of the traits that he has adopted as a way of life.  We can't all be the greatest golfer ever or swing the same way that he does, but we can all learn from these habits:

Goal Setting

Tiger has had clearly defined and written goals since an early age.  As a child he listed and pinned on his wall Jack Nicklaus' career achievements including those he achieved as a junior.  Having set himself the greatest ever benchmark, Tiger has set about beating Jack's record at every stage.  It will be fascinating to see what drives Tiger once he beats Jack's tally of 18 majors.

Constant Improvement

Tiger won his first major as a professional by 12 shots aged 21.  The rest of the golfing world was stunned at how good this kid was.  Tiger responded by rebuilding his technique to make himself even better.  He didn't win another major for over 2 years but he kept his focus on improving himself for the long-term.  Change is a mindset.  Successful people not only adapt to change but drive it themselves.

Take Ownership

Tiger takes full ownership, or responsibility for his performance.  You will never hear an excuse when he doesn't win.  After coming 2nd in this year's US Masters everybody was surprised to hear when he had immediate surgery on his knee.  His caddy Steve Williams was quoted as saying that he didn't let anybody outside of his inner circle know of the problem as "he hates making excuses".

Give Value

Tiger earns the vast sums that he does, $3 million appearance fees and tens of millions from his sponsors, because those paying are receiving far greater value.  At virtually every tournament he guarantees larger crowds, millions more TV viewers, will always be entertaining and in the mix at the end on Sunday.

Work Ethic

"Other players may sometimes out-play me, but no-one will ever out-practice me"   TW.
