> US College Preparation
For those players that are heading to college in the US, there is a gap between matriculating in December and starting college the following August/September. This programme fills that gap with intensive elite performance training from February to July, ensuring that college bound players are prepared and ready to compete on the college circuit.
Additional life skills training is given to prepare students for their college experience.
The programme includes;
* Technical Training - Players receive world class coaching from a qualified team led by Elite Performance Director, Michael Balderstone, following the unique Total Golf Coaching System. Each student works with a swing coach and has a dedicated short game coach to work exclusively on that area of their game. Full use is made of the latest coaching technology and training aids to accelerate the improvement process.
* Golf Fitness - Players receive weekly training and individual programmes from South Africa’s leading golf fitness trainers Garth Milne and Shane Gutzeit from Kinetic Golf. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from their work with tour professionals on the international tours. Their links with the Titleist Performance Institute in USA keeps them at the forefront of golf fitness training techniques.
* Mental Conditioning - Players receive 1-on-1 sessions with leading golf psychologist Theo Bezuidenhout. Theo brings passion and experience from his work with many of South Africa’s finest young players, and builds the sessions around each learner’s specific needs.
* Course Strategy - Players receive course strategy sessions at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC from our qualified team of coaches.
* Tournaments - TGSE hosts a full schedule of 35 exclusive tournaments, which form the basis of the TGSE Order of Merit. Tournaments include weekly strokeplay medals and a number of 72-hole championships. All vital statistics are analysed to help form the student’s Performance Development Programme. Matchplay also form a vital part of the programme with an internal championship and matches against other competitive teams. Students also compete in local and national amateur tournaments to gain additional experience.
* Practice Facilities – Technical training takes place at the TGSE Academy at Observatory Range. Players have access to unlimited practice balls as well as to the short game area built to USGA specifications. The players become members of Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC and have unlimited prepaid rounds of golf on the two championship courses (East & West). The club plays host each year to the Joburg Open, a European Tour event, amongst other professional events. The East Course is a fixture in the top 10 of South Africa’s course ratings and the club achieved 5-star status for its overall facilities and service. Unlimited access to these world-class facilities allows our elite players to custom fit their practice regimes around their areas of specific need.
